128 bit encryption

I got an email from a certain bank educating me about the safety of statements-via-email.
Your PDF Advice on E-mail is ‘password protected’ and 128-bit encrypted to provide you additional security.

Made me think:

  1. Does the public really understand the significance of this ?
  2. Is there really a significance ? For the end-user, its just a password.
  3. If I had 256 bit encryption, would my money be safer ?

  1. He he. Its all about making the bank sound important and eager to safeguard you.
Just like ‘Pro Vitamin B5’ or ‘HDF’ (hair damage factor) used in personal care product ads.
