A few days ago, I was having a discussion with Siddhartha-da, a friend who lives in Mequon, WI about the fact that in today’s world, if you do not have an online presence, people start to doubt your physical existence.
Siddhartha-da does have a tangible physical presence as a faculty at Marquette University though he does not have a profile on Facebook or Orkut or a blog.
In itself, this is not a mind-blowing hypothesis or observation — no such misgivings. It however, did take me back to a I had a conversation with Diptendu-da. Diptendu-da was the CEO of Millennium InfoSystems Ltd, based in Calcutta, an alumni and a visiting faculty at the Dept. of Computer Science, Jadavpur University. He had said something, which I still remember:
If you search for something on the web and the search engine does not return an appropriate match, you tend to start believing that no such thing exists.
This was 1999.
