Mixed Bag Saturday

Started writing a distributed simulation in Ruby. And this is a great opportunity to learn a great language. One think I am liking about Ruby is that it gives you the opportunity to be terse without being cryptic (Perl). Don’t get me wrong, I love Perl and possibly the real-life implementation of this simulation is going to be in Perl. I just think that too many $ {} ->  & % make for ugly code.

37 reasons to love Ruby.

Icon Wars
If you have ever played and loved Diablo, you’ve got to see this war.

Hendrix: The Wind Cries Mary
Its been quite a while I’ve played Hendrix covers. Came across this video, which makes me want to do some of that stuff sometime later today. Dylanesque lyrics and sweet melodies aplenty; makes for some nice afternoon listening.

After all the jacks are in their boxes
And the clowns have all gone to bed
You can hear happiness staggering on down the street
Footsteps dressed in red
And the wind whispers Mary
A broom is drearily sweeping
Up the broken pieces of yesterdays life
Somewhere a queen is weeping
Somewhere a king has no wife
And the wind, it cries Mary

Mozart on rollerblades
Talking of Music Videos, ahem. One struggles to play Mozart’s 40th Symphony on the piano, guitar, xylophone .. what not. Look at this guy play it with bottles and rollerblades. Yessir, bottles and rollerblades. The actual performance may not be musically stellar but just to think about the creativity and meticulousness that went behind this makes me shudder. Blessed be the blades of man. Here’s the link.

Them Sofas have arrived
After about 3 months of soul-searching, color-matching, measuring the lengths and the depths of our living room an umpteenth number of times, we bought a sofa-set.  Velvet upholstered and wine colored, they are looking both sophisticated and loungish.

It is considered political suicide to make any negative comment about something that you just bought spending about half a month’s salary.

I am looking forward to many memorable moments on these and the pictures are coming.
